Long time no post ~ a long overdue update

August 5, 2012

The fight goes on. Sadly I have resorted to using a small dose of prednisone and antihistamine. (A medication called Temeril-P) I had weaned her down to a 1/4 tablet once a day but then she had a flare up. Because of the low dose and (I think) a new food change she has finally had some fur grow back on her chest recently. I also got a new faucet so bathing her in the kitchen sick has made it easier (on my back) to bathe her more frequently. The food is the fish formula of Earthborn Holistic. Here she is earlier today in the yard.

Not to shabby! (knock on wood)

  1. Hi,
You poor girl looks like my German Shepherd does when he has something on his long allergy list. He had so many issues with his skin and his tummy when we got him so after a period of trying to eliminate the usual suspects and it not helping we went for allergy testing. He has a major allergy to house dust mite, chicken, soya, white fish, red meat and wheat/gluten!
His diet is now economy cuts of salmon (he has a small one in the evening) with butternut squash and salmon biscuits which we get from our local 'pets at home' store that has no soya or other allergen inducing nasties in it. In the morning he has the squash and biscuit with scrambled egg, he also has a small amount of live yoghurt to boost his good gut bacteria.
His skin is so sensitive and the slightest thing will make it raw which then leads to fungal infections and the need for anti fungal cream and hydrocortisone cream.
He takes a constant low dose of prednisolone (steroid) as trying to completely eliminate house dust mites is impossible. His other issue is he has a nasty habit of eating cat poop from the local cats who seem to like our garden, if he isn't watched like a hawk he will find it and then he is extremely ill and needs a whole host of meds to get him back on track :o(

Feeling your pain and glad you seem to have it under control, give her a big hug from me :o)
